Dr. Dawie Slabbert started his private fertility practice at Panorama Mediclinic, Cape Town in June 2008. He trained extensively in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Stellenbosch. Dr. Slabbert completed his undergraduate studies in 1995. In 2005 he qualified as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. After spending some time in Belgium doing research in the field of Reproductive Medicine he then worked on a fellowship in Reproductive Medicine from January 2006 until June 2008. Dr. Slabbert was fortunate enough to train under the mentorship of Prof. T.F. Kruger, Dr. Kobie van der Merwe and Dr. Igno Siebert.

 

Dr. Dawie Slabbert believes in a holistic approach to infertility. He aims to cater for couples' individual needs in a supportive, nurturing and relaxing environment. Working with you, he will map out an individualised plan to determine the cause of your infertility and an appropriate course of action.

Prof Hennie Botha started his professional career in a rural hospital in Malawi after which he specialised in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He did further training in the field of Gynaecological Oncology in the UK and is a registered sub-specialist in Gynaecological Oncology. He serves in the Sub-Saharan Africa Cervical Cancer Working Group and the South African HPV Advisory Board. He is the secretary of the SA Society for Gynaecological Oncology. Prof Hennie Botha has a research interest in fertility preservation in female cancer patients and prevention of cervical cancer. He has authored or co-authored more than 25 articles in journals and is co-editor of the textbook “Clinical Gynaecology”. He is a full time clinician and teaches under- and post-graduate students. Prof. Botha provides gynaecological oncology care to patients referred to him by his colleagues in private practice.

Dr. Jozef Fourie completed his internship at the Department Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Pretoria, and in 2008 he became registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Biological Scientist, specializing in Reproductive Biology. He was appointed as Assistant Director: Medical Sciences, at Steve Biko Academic Hospital and functioned as Head Embryologist at the Reproductive Biology Laboratory. For his research Dr Jozef Fourie was awarded a PhD (Reproductive Biology) by the University of Pretoria in 2013. Dr. Jozef Fourie joined Dr. Slabbert’s team as Head of Laboratory Services in 2014. He not only produces excellent results in the laboratory, but enjoys interacting with patients and giving them feedback from the lab.

Sr. Ilse Vorster is the Cycle Coordinator at Dr Dawie Slabbert. She joined the team in October 2013.

 

Ilse completed her studies at the University of the Free State in 1999 and holds a B.Soc.Sc (Hons) in Nursing.

 

She has a true passion for her career and her involvement with patients. They are made to feel at ease from the start as she guides patients through the whole process of fertility treatment in a welcoming and warm environment. In the short time that Sr. Vorster has been part of the team, she has become indispensible.  She fulfils a cardinal role coordinating treatment cycles, offering information and advice and providing seamless postoperative care to surgical patients. There is no end to her compassion and willingness to help each and every patient.

Sister Desirè Nortjé completed her Nursing training in 2006 thereafter she worked as a theatre sister at Mediclinic Panorama for 13 years.

 

Desirè recently joined Dr Slabbert's team in 2015 where she assists him in theatre and shares his passion for laparoscopic and gynaecological surgery. She, together with Sister Ilse Vorster, are responsible for the cycle coordination of fertility patients. Sister Desirè also assists Professor Botha, gynaecological oncologist, during surgery and plays a large part in the emotional support and post-operative care of our valued patients.

Erica Hanekom is the Personal Assistant and the Practice Manager at Dr. Dawie Slabbert Inc. She has over a decade of experience in the management of busy surgical practices.

 

She embraces the ethos of the practice and provides a professional and highly efficient service, yet manages to cater for the individual needs of patients with her warmth and friendliness. She fully understands the plight of couples trying to conceive and is an influencial and respected team member.
